Kelly Flanagan is a Wiradjuri First Nations artist, writer and lived-experience advocate based in Naarm/Melbourne on Wurundjeri Country. Working under the artist name ArtworkByAalayah, Kelly creates contemporary Aboriginal artworks that explore identity, culture, Country, belonging, resilience and the experiences that shape Aboriginal women’s lives. Her practice includes acrylic painting, drawing, digital artwork and mixed media, drawing inspiration from Wiradjuri culture, personal experiences and the strength of community. Through bold colour, symbolism and storytelling, Kelly creates work that shares First Nations perspectives while making space for conversations about culture, identity, justice and healing.

Alongside her creative practice, Kelly advocates for women who have experienced violence, incarceration, poverty and disadvantage, particularly women from low socio-economic backgrounds who have faced barriers to safety, equality and opportunity. Her own lived experience has given her a powerful understanding of the systems and circumstances that can impact women’s lives, and she uses both her voice and her art to advocate for dignity, justice, human rights and meaningful change. Kelly’s work is grounded in truth-telling, resilience, cultural reconnection and social justice, with a strong commitment to amplifying the voices of women whose stories are often overlooked or unheard. Through her art and advocacy, she aims to create greater understanding, connection and recognition of First Nations people and women experiencing disadvantage.
